 The Boomertirement issue is both a challenge and an opportunity that requires immediate leadership by the financial services industry, the media, the public sector and individuals.
That was the consensus of participants in the high-profile Boomertirement Capstone Panel Discussion. Moderated by Boomer, Author and Private Equity Manager Tom Wheeler, the panel featured insight regarding solutions to the Baby Boomer retirement crisis from three premier retirement experts:
The panelists advocated specific actions each group must take to help Baby Boomers and future generations maximize their quality of life during retirement:
- Media – Help create public awareness of the need for individuals to take action on their own behalf to prepare for retirement, and of the professional resources available to help them.
- Financial Services Industry – “Disturb” consumers into taking action to strengthen their retirement savings and security, and develop creative solutions that help the average individual take immediate action.
- Individuals and Associations – Unite in efforts to create an environment of political will to address Boomertirement issues by becoming more active in the conversation and process.
- Government – Enact policies and actions that encourage and make it easy for individuals to save for retirement; and strengthen retiree benefit programs including Social Security and Medicare.
